MEXC Futures Explained: A Beginner's Guide

By QuantPulse · July 22, 2026 · 7 min read

MEXC is one of the largest crypto exchanges by futures volume, and its perpetual futures are a common entry point for traders who want more than simple spot buying. This guide explains the mechanics in plain English — and where the real risk lives.

Spot vs. futures

When you buy spot, you own the coin. With futures, you trade a contract that tracks the price — you can go long (betting price rises) or short (betting it falls) without owning the underlying asset. A perpetual future has no expiry date, so positions can be held indefinitely.

Leverage: the double-edged sword

Leverage lets you control a larger position with less capital — 10x leverage means $100 controls $1,000 of exposure. It multiplies gains and losses equally. At 10x, a 10% move against you wipes out your entire margin (a liquidation). Beginners should treat high leverage as the fastest way to lose an account, not a shortcut to profit.

Funding rates

Because perpetuals never expire, exchanges use a funding rate to keep the contract price tethered to spot. Longs periodically pay shorts (or vice-versa) depending on which side is crowded. If you hold a position through funding, this is a real recurring cost or credit worth checking before you enter.

The three numbers that matter

  • Entry — where you open the position.
  • Stop-loss — the price where you accept you were wrong and exit. Set this first.
  • Take-profit — where you bank gains. Aim for a reward at least 1.5–2x your risk.

Risk management is the whole game

Professionals rarely risk more than 1–2% of their account on a single trade. Survival across many trades beats a big win on one. Position sizing, not prediction, is what separates traders who last from those who don't.
